Tender is the Night, Fitzgerald’s last complete novel, was originally published in 1934 in Scribner’s Magazine. A tragic love story set on the French Riviera during the Roaring Twenties, Fitzgerald considered it his greatest work, despite the novel’s lukewarm reception upon its release. It has since come to be regarded as a work of high aesthetic merit and has been adapted for the theatre, television and film, with Jason Robards and Jennifer Jones playing the conflicted couple, Dick and Nicole Diver, in the 1962 classic.
