Wilde wrote a total of nine plays, but is best-known for four comedies—Lady Windermere’s Fan, A Woman of No Importance, An Ideal Husband, The Importance of Being Earnest—and the tragedy Salomé. His plays continue to be performed around the world and have inspired numerous adaptations, while his life was the subject of the highly acclaimed Brian Gilbert film, Wilde (1997), with Stephen Fry in the leading role.
