Well Known Tales From Panchatantra is a collection of various stories. The stories of Panchatantra are the some of the most popular folk stories from ancient Indian literature. No one knows how old the stories of Panchatantra are but these stories are usually accredited to Vishnu Sharma. Sometimes, people suppose that the stories of Panchatantra are as ancient as the Rig-Veda. One popular legend regarding the beginning of Panchatantra goes like this: There once was a mighty king who had three sons who were dull and without wisdom or wit. The king was worried about well-being of his three sons, so he approached a clever Brahmin named Vishnu Sharma. He prays to him to pass on wisdom to his sons. He decides to pass knowledge onto his sons in the form of interesting stories since they would not understand it in any other way. The stories recited by Vishnu Sarma contain birds and animals and he makes the characters behave and speak like humans. The stories are about the five ways in which human beings can achieve their goals in life. In the term, Panchatantra, pancha means the number five and tantra means strategies or ways. Primarily told to the king's sons, the stories are first and foremost about statecraft and are famous in the entire world. The five strategies taught in this book are quarrels among friends, gaining friends, loss of gains, mindless actions and imprudence and includes stories about crows and owls. This book consists of stories about clever hares, evil hunters, clever jackals, great friends and much more.
