This isn't merely a story of oppression or of normal advocacy for the poor. Parijat, with her efficacious narration sequined here and there with artistic thoughts, depicts a revolutionary generation turned into the very class they fought against. After 2007 B.S (1950 A.D) Nepal's crown shifted, although disputably, from the powerful Rana family to the Royal family, hitherto a puppet to the former family. The Royal family, rooted in its feudalistic policies and obsolete caste-consciousness failed to satisfy the population. Hence, protests, political movements and finally a civil war erupted. And these revolutionaries, what were they? Some were like our dear narrator, true to their ideological conviction despite an eleven year prison term. Some were more than happy to become the bourgeoisie they swore to bring down. I find Parijat's prose deeply rooted in an implacable pessimism. This serves to provide a grey-tone to every fleeting thought. Its impressive how the main character here sways between his creator's heavy trodden pen and his own soaring, persistent ideology.
